Violent storms ripped through parts of the Texas Panhandle last night . 90+ mph winds did a number on this farmhouse and tree , and put the power pole a little too close to the front door .

Oh my goodness, Tim! Those straight line winds can be as damaging as a tornado! Awesome weather shot! I hate to say beautiful composition on something so destructive, but it is. Wonderful clarity! 10! We had big storms last night too, but half your wind speeds, if that. Received 2/10's of an inch. "A little too close" is right!! :)

Congratulations on a great VIP!!

Thanks Linda , Gil , Heidrun and Mary ! I'm pretty sure the old house had been abandoned but the owner was on the property . I don't know which was worse , the destruction or the look on the poor owner's face at the sight of this mess . There was actually some good that came from these storms - parts of the affected area got MORE rain in one night ( last night ) than they received for the entire 2011 drought year . Go figure :)

As a 25 year veteran of the Panhandle, plus another 25 or so years in the Permian Basin, I must confirm that you admirably capture the essence of West Texas. Congratulations!

About docshovel39
docshovel39 Hello , my name is Tim . I live in the small farming community of Ropesville , Texas with my wife and photo partner Sherry . I got involved with photography because of my older brother Steve - a fantastic photographer who lives outside of Seattle , WA . My favorite work , apart from his , is a terrific book entitled " Ghosts in the Wilderness " by Tony and Eva Worobiec . It captures the remains of small , abandoned rural communities across the Midwest , much of it shot in black and white . I also have become a fan of photographer Jim McGuire . His black and white shots ( nashvilleportraits.com) are amazing . Thank you for your comments and have a GREAT day !
