We found this turtle and thought it was dead, was a long way from the water and looked like it was trying to make its way back down the boat ramp to the river. Hubby picked it up, carried it back to the water. It sure was very happy to be back in the river and took off :)

LOL! I'm going to have to start calling you the "Turtle Lady", Delana. :)

Softshells only leave the water to lay eggs, so this is what she was probably doing. Be very careful picking them up because they have very long necks and will bite if they feel threatened.

I love the photo!

I would like to have added that it was probably a female laying eggs, also that softshells are bad-tempered and will bite, but I see that ground has already been covered. I'm sure the turtle was relieved to be back in the water again, Delana! I will stop the car on our country roads to move a box turtle that is in danger of getting run over.

Thanks Kathy for the comment! I knew they have a very long neck and they will bite you too, lol. This one didn't offer to at all, didn't stretch it's neck out any further than this pic. Lol, I will do the same on stopping and helping turtles across the road, even on busy highways. Thank You for doing the same :)

That look on her face is priceless... Like she spent all day finding a good place to lay her eggs, then laid them... Was pooped and just wanted to get back to the water and rest..then "PEOPLE came and picked me up... AND.. Took pictures, the flash blinded me, and I didn't even have time to fix my shell".
