EEEK!
Hoping you won't have trouble with the work commute on Monday.
I vote for the wireless mouse! I cannot stand the laptop without it. Good luck.
Hey Carolina !!!
Hope your weekend's going well. I actually managed to check a few things off my list, and now am being given the Evil Eye by the furball. How dare I do other things all day while she sleeps, and decide not to tend to her when she wakes. ;)
I just pulled Huri out of the basement. Looks like she may have more of a chance for a little something than you. I guess this is as gentle a heads-up as we could ask for. Here comes The Season!
I'm with Linda on getting to grips with the laptop - how can you keep up with the world happenings without it!
Come on girl - you can do it!! lol
PS - I (we) miss your Saturday catch up posts!
Hope your Monday's going well - I still haven't gone to check on that storm. Guess I ought to do that right now, while I track down rumors about rain for us tonight.
Have a good one!
Hello to Ylee, Caro, Wab, Shore and Sandi. Yeah, I’m gonna have to get myself moving at home and quit dithering about and procrastinating with that computer.
I didn’t even realize there was something out there until last night. Ignorance is bliss!
We're not supposed to get much of anything but some wind, rip tides, beach erosion, etc. I don't think we'll even get rain. The sun is shining out there right now.
The local surfers are in hog heaven; they’ve finally got some decent waves. There’s nothing like a tropical storm offshore to generate that clarion call of “SURF’S UP!”
Lunch is a bit disappointing. I’d gotten the Lean Cusine’s steamable mushroom tortellini. I didn’t pay any attention to the fact that it had green peas in it. Boy, does it have green peas! There were four tortellini and half of what’s in my bowl is peas. I hate peas.
I’ve got some grapes and some watermelon to fill it out but I’m going to be hungry by the time I get home.
Hope supper was better!
I can handle one or two or so in soup or something but they tend to use them as fillers and pack 'em in until the dish won't hold any more.
Alberto didn't really make much of an appearance, locally. Added a bit more erosion damage to the beaches. We had a lot of erosion this past year from storms, canes and otherwise.
Every time I managed to get a glimpse out of the window here at work, the sun was shining.
We didn't even get much in the way of wind. It might have been more noticable on the beaches. It usually is.
I have to say that it has been rather windy or breezy the past couple of months. Why? I bought some Roundup to spray the back fence.
Can't spray when it's windy, unless you luck up and get it blowing the right way. Otherwise, you'll kill everything in sight. If I manage to find a few hours when the wind dies down, it is either after dark (and I'm not spraying in the dark) or we have rain in the forecast. Rains will just wash the spray off.
Meanwhile, the green briar, wild grape, Virginia creeper, etc, is exploding from one end of the fence to the other.
I've done so all my life.
It makes the peas taste funny
But it keeps them on my knife!"
Hi Bug - You want to spray weed-killer in your garden?
Technically, the wind is always the lightest first thing in the morning, after sunrise.... so you will just have to get up early one morning!! lol
I know a couple of them and want to stop by and say hello. Also get a spicy hot dog from Jack's Cosmic Dogs foodtruck. Lotsa horseradish on it and it'll really clean my sinuses out!
Yes, Sandi, I spray weed killer on the back fence. Esp if there's poison ivy, and there is some in the ditch right behind it. I don't spray anywhere else; just that back fence.
Yuck.. even honey wouldn't get those peas past my lips.
Have a nice evening!
You've got to go over to Bayou Woman and look at what she's got posted there - photos of a PINK cattle egret! It's the weirdest/prettiest thing I've seen in some time. I'm anxious to see what she finds out about it - I hope the LSU folks actually track it down.
Ylee, you're probably right, though they didn't get
enough of that mustard on the dog to suit me. Not like last year. I was crying and wheezing and folks were staring at me, like they were wondering if they should be giving the Heimlich maneuver or not. All the while, I'm thinking, "Oh, God, this is GREAT!"
shore, I'll have to go peek. A pink cattle egret? That's weird.
Not much time, I've got to check my outtie mail.
Thanks to Sandi and Pros for posting birthday wishes this morning for Dad. I know he'll be tickled to pieces.
that is a strange bird. never seen one colored pink like that. It looks a bit like someone sprayed it with cherry KoolAid!
I see we have another invest that might put a damper on Memorial Day celebrations in FL/GA/SC. And getting my laundry done. We'll just have to see what
happens.
Never a dull moment.
The office is pretty well deserted today. Lots of folks work 10 hours Mon-Thurs so they can leave early on Friday. There are also a fair number that took today off, so as to get a 4 day weekend.
Since I had just taken off to go visit Dad the first weekend of this month and I'm planning to go back Father's Day weekend, I didn't feel like I needed to miss any more work than necessary between now and then.
The office will be closed Monday but I do have a couple of things I want to do at the house and can't seem to get to them on a regular weekend. This might just be the opportunity I need.
If these OAP's can use one... you, a mere youngster, have no excuse!
Have a Happy Weekend :)
It sounds like it will be an interesting weather week. I hope folks in our area continue to pay attention for the return trip of Beryl.
I just stopped in at Cgal's place wishing her well and of course am thinking of you, my other Carolina Sister.
What's up with this Alberto and, now Beryl, messing with us? More importantly, knocking on north Florida's door directly. I hope everyone will be okay. I am concerned that this is a surprise visitor to many holiday revelers.
Fare well, my friend.
I see the laptop is still in its box!
Happy Monday :)
Sandi, yeah, I've been dragging my feet with getting my laptop going. I've got to check my email to see if I've gotten a reply to my email to Norton support re: transferring my subscription from the desktop to my laptop. I remember seeing instructions on how to add additional computers to your subscription but I didn't keep them, since I only had one desktop at the time. It was mainly geared towards multiple computer households.
Caro and Huri? We had nice weather all weekend. Oh, I saw those outer, outer fringe bands of clouds marching by Sat and Sun. A couple of showers Saturday. Otherwise, it's been mostly sunny and blue skies.
It is overcast today and I expect to see rain at anytime. The radar has some small bands of rain around us but the largest band has yet to move into the area.
Wind is not expected to be bad, at all. Gusty but I can do gusty.
The biggest concern locally is flooding; esp downtown, as the rain will be here to liven up the afternoon commute.
It's time to see if Mayor "Little" Joe Riley's Crosstown renovation will alleviate that problem. They're still working on it, so I don't know if it will help today and tomorrow.
Hubby and I spent the weekend doing household and yard chores, watching war movies and we caught The Bob Newhart Show marathon on the Hallmark Channel Saturday afternoon.
I watched Jeremy Wade's River Monsters season finale last night. He was in Guyana. As usual, way back in the back of beyond. Bet the Gator Boys would have loved to have been there while Jeremy was wrangling caimans!
Beryl has moved on after leaving about 2 inches of rain in my gauge.
I saw a couple of sprinkles on my windshield, on my way home but it never did rain until later in the evening.
About 9:00, I noticed that the pavement on the street was wet. About 11:00, we got a pretty good downpour. Not sure when it stopped; it was cloudy when I got up but there's been no more rain.
Hope Hubby was OK on his route in the wee hours. My commute was normal, thank heavens. If it had kept raining, it might have been tricky getting to work, considering how the downtown streets flood.
Gus and I watched Katie Couric doing a special last night on Her Majesty's Silver Jubilee. Amazing. Queen Victoria is the only other monarch to reach 50 years on the throne. Gotta hand it to the ladies!
When Katie remarked to William that she'd heard the Queen did not sit down like they were, to do interviews. William said she doesn't do it because she says "They ask too many questions." LOL... they do, that.
Hello there, Bug ....
Her Majesty is celebrating her Diamond Jubilee, and both her and Victoria reached 60 years:)
Lots on the TV this weekend ... we get a four day weekend, Sat, Sun Monday and Tuesday!
I am holding a Jubilee Tea on Sunday afternoon and I have been invited to a Jubilee BBQ on Monday... so lots of food over the weekend!! lol
At least I had the part about HRH and Queen Victoria right.
It sounds like you've quite the gustatory jubilee celebration going on this weekend, Sandi.
I'll have to see what I can see on TV, though I'm sure you will have much more coverage than we will.
Rats...
One of the girls here at work (another cat lady!) loaned me a book about Dewey Readmore Books, the late library cat of the Spencer, Iowa Public Library. It's as much about small town life as it is about Dewey. I'm enjoying it very much but am dreading the end, as Dewey passed away in 2006.
Though he seemed to have been known, and had visitors from, all around the world, this is the first I recall hearing about him.
"The fountain murmuring of sleep,
A drowsy tune;
The flickering green of leaves that keep
The light of June;
Peace, through a slumbering afternoon,
The peace of June.
Arthur Symons
"I can't help but wonder how the World would be,
If like the butterfly and rose we lived in harmony."
Bernard Howe
There is a great documentary on tonight,(seen the clips) fronted by Prince Charles, showing old video clips of previously unseen "Royal" family life. Hope it comes over to you :)
Happy June, everyone, and I'm lifting a glass tonight in hopes of a quiet Season, despite Alberto and Beryl dropping in early.
Pros, I love hydrangeas. Many of the downtown walled gardens have them, as they usually have a lot of shade. I have one on the back side of the house, which faces north and has shade. It's a lovely blue, due to whatever PH the soil is there.
Hi, Ylee! Yeah, I hate those swirlies. Have to admit, though, the rain from both of them was needed. My river birch in the front yard started dropping leaves about three or four weeks ago. Stress from lack of water.
Sandi, I'll have to check the TV listings. I rather think many of those specials and documentaries will be on the cable news stations, with a few on ABC, NBC or CBS.
I would love to see some home movies of the Royals!
I'll be going over to visit my cousin in her new digs for the first time after work today. I've got some things I want to do this weekend and I haven't seen her since about a week before she moved. I've called several times and she's been busy trying to get settled in. Which is why I haven't been over yet. Her daughter has been with her for most of the past two weekends, trying to get everything she wants from the house, get her room set up, etc.
We'll all rest better, knowing she's not in that big house alone. She's almost 90 and is very prone to falling. She's now living at Bishop Gadsden.
Have a nice weekend!
WU friends!!!

I'm still not too enthused about using a laptop vs a desktop but I guess I'll eventually get used to it.
Will check in tomorrow at lunch. I am bushed. So much for having the weekend to rest up from work. I'll have to get back to work to rest up from the weekend!
whiterabbitswhiterabbitswhiterabbits!
Some images from Jubilee Sunday. Two days down and two to go!
Happy Monday to you :)
Glad to see you are "attempting" to get up and running"!
I just loved the river pageant yesterday - I watched it on the computer, on BBC live. I'm hoping to catch some of the concert, too, but I'm probably going to be at work yet when they broadcast it live. I haven't found a way to work around the time difference yet!
Have a good afternoon - hope Monday's going well.
Yes, I finally got my antivirus transferred. Took me a while to figure out how to do it, without having to pay for a year's subscription again.
Janet, now that I'm set up, I just have to learn how to do all those little things on my lappy, which all seem so different from the desktop models. As I said, you can teach an old dog new tricks; it just takes longer!
(((FINN))) I've been having computer woes, which is why I don't have a June entry up yet.
Sandi, I watched the boat procession on CNN. It was an amazing sight. I got all excited when the royal barge did that fast 360 just below Tower Bridge!
Everyone seemed to be having a high old time, despite the weather.
Shore, I forgot you deep sixed your TV and only have your computer. What is being aired here is mostly on CNN. Or BBC America but our cable company doesn't carry it. Work intefered with the events being aired this morning and will again tomorrow.
I'll watch the concert but it's not being shown in its entirety; they're showing highlights. Can't hear the music, due to my hearing, but I'll watch. Gotta see Sir Paul! lol
It was a shame they had to cancel the fly over; I was looking forward to that. Conditions were not optimal and they have to put safety first.
Oh, the joys of setting up a new computer. So many updates, downloads and so little time.
I spent 2 hours last night, running things.
My Gmail won't display properly, as I need an updated browser. The process aborted and it told me why and what to do, but by that time, I was too tired to mess with it. I couldn't concentrate on it. Normally, I print out the instructions but my printer isn't compatible with the lappy. I was having to write all the steps down. by 10:00, I threw in the towel. I'll have to get to it later.
I still haven't even checked to see if I need to update/add Java and/or Adobe.
I don't know about you, but it seems like time is flying just too quickly. I didn't even get my white rabbits out and about on time - by July, they'll be beige bunnies!
But it does feel like summer. I'm making a lot of iced tea and keep thinking about barbeque and potato salad. Pretty soon we'll have real tomatoes and sweet corn - what a nice thought!
