First and foremost, I hope that everyone is doing better in the wake of Hurricane Sandy. Our entire area has been through a very rough time in the last month, and while most people’s lives are gradually restoring to normal, I know that many others are still struggling a great deal.

After some flurries moving across the area tonight, a more notable precipitation event will be upon us to start the weekend. This will be the very first shot at accumulating snowfall during the meteorological winter season. It’s looking more and more like the first week and half or so of January will in fact be a temporary pattern change. The MJO is throwing us a bone and supporting a persistent trough in the east during this time period.
