Last weekend I went out and fished a number of locations for a variety of species to try to draft a reliable report for all types of anglers.
Below the Stennis Lock and Dam the Blue Cat and White Bass bite is hard to beat when the gates are open (catches of 15-20 good sized fish of both species were witnessed by me). When they are closed the Gar take up residence and the bite for the other species slows to a crawl, though an occasional good fish is still not out of the question. Bait that works best is live or dead shad.
Also got an evening in on the Buttahatchie River and caught some nice channel cats on chicken livers. The river will likely move into flood stage over the next couple of days due to the large amount of rain we have received this week, so fishability will dwindle a little until next week.
Spent an afternoon on Columbus Lake this last Sunday fishing the Crappie bite. Minnows produced a couple of small fish for me, but I really couldn't dedicate my time to zone in on them (had my 6 year old with me). Good catch reports are still coming in, so I'm sure they are out there for the picking.
Hopefully I can get a couple hours on the water this weekend! See you out there!
As always,
Tight Lines!
