Tulip Time in Holland, MI

It's the beginning of tulip Time in Holland, MI. It is a celebration of the Dutch heritage of our city. The fireworks over Lake Michigan kicked off the annual event last night and the streets this week will be filled with locals dressed in traditional Dutch costumes and performing their klompen dances in wooden shoes. Parades on Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday round out the colorful celebration.
later this week, I have a half day off of school. Thursday afternoon is the traditional day of the Children's Costume Parade. The local schools participate by providing the children and teachers a half day off to dress in their traditional Dutch costume and parade along the main street accompanied by the local marching bands. The Holland High School bands plays Tip Toe Through the Tulips as they clickety clack along wearing their wooden shoes. Colorful and fun for all!

Sounds like something I would really love to attend! Have fun! Take pictures and share!
I was pretty excited about your summer trip to Italy, and would love to go myself - never have. When you mentioned going to Bologna, I realized that I know nothing about it, so some of us in our family looked it up! We looked at some YouTube videos about the city, looked up several points of interest on internet, and my household learned a lot about Bologna, that we never would have known otherwise! We then expanded onto Venice and watched a few videos from there, and by the end I felt like I had taken a nice little trip to at least part of Italy! I really enjoy being inspired to look into something new and learning some new things - especially geographically related. Will you be going anywhere else on your trip?
The tulip festival sounds like a lot of fun - especially for newcomers. Sounds very colorful and a fun ethnic celebration. We have a lot of tulips growing in fields north of us not too far, and also smaller fields south of us, so tulips are a big part of our local culture for mainly the month of April. The tulips in our yard are fading now, even though there are varieties that may still bloom here and there. It sounds like this festival must draw in a lot of tourists? Multiple days of parades sort of seems that it must. A photo or two would be fun to see!
Same here, too.... except our Spring day only got up to 50! We also had a frost last night!
Not long to the end of the school year, now!
Rodent in the pool this morning (ugh). It is dead, but slipped into the skimmer and I am not sure how to get it out without touching it, of course! Ewwww. Steve will be home tomorrow, so I am debating just leaving it until then. We only get a couple of unwanted visitors throughout the entire season - usually frogs which don't freak me out as much.
