first rain

Well, had the first significant rainfall last night - and my weather station is down! Several days ago it reported, incorrectly, that we'd had 7.4 inches of rain (when there was none) so I cleared it back to 0. This morning it is still at 0 though we probably had at least half an inch. Will have to go up on the roof and see what's up

cooler weather helping the firefighters

Slightly cooler weather has helped the firefighters in northern CA though along with the cooling, it has been a bit windy. The North Pass Fire in Mendocino National Forest near Covelo still only 35% contained and a real challenge to fight, in steep remote forest.

Heat wave, fires and clouds

It's been a heat wave for the last week - today it was 102 here (down from yesterday's 106) and the fires over in Lake County about 30 miles away are making a lot of smoke. And, there some high clouds - muggy hot miserable to be outside kinda weather! High temps are forecast through the weekend and into next week. Not good news for the firefighters!

season total?

Yesterday's (June 22 2012) .04 inches of rain brought our season total to exactly 25 inches, here at the home weather station. Beautiful day today - cool and fresh.

Rodeo weekend rain?

The big event of the year in Potter Valley - the Spring Festival and Rodeo over Memorial Day Weekend. 3 days of parade, junior rodeo, Pro rodeo, gymkhana, lawn mower races, axe throwing contest, BBQ, Starlight Dance, ... oh and the church ladies selling yummy pies! And of course, there is a chance of rain in the forecast! We've had a rain on the parade several times over the last few years - hoping for perfect, not-too-hot and not-too-wet weather this weekend.
